Growing up, I used to climb our rooftop just to get to watch the rice fields from above. As the grass swayed when the wind blew, that was the first moment I enjoyed and appreciated the beauty and wonder of life and I felt alive. This is the same feeling I have in me when I paint.

Self-discovery is the one true purpose and joy in life and has always been the subject of Joejene's works. Discovering the beauty and wonder of the existence of life and nature fuels his creative process. Joejene’s artistic practice springs from consciously engaging in and feeling the moment of creation with a sense of joy, wonder, and curiosity like a child discovering life. His medium acrylic and mixed media on canvas translate these artistic ideas into abstract paintings with his unique style and skills at rendering rich colors, textures and depth.
Born in the Philippines where he earned a degree in Fine Arts Joejene has expanded his mark as a contemporary abstract artist since moving to Canada with his family in 2006. He has held numerous exhibitions in Ottawa, Toronto, and internationally in Monaco. He is currently represented by Orange Art Gallery (Ottawa), and Le Salon Art Club Galerie (Montreal).
His works are held in private collections in The Philippines, United States, Japan, The Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, and Canada
Artist Statement
My creative process is very intuitive, consciously engaging, and enjoying the moment of creation. When I work I love the idea that I do not worry about what is about, where is it going or how is it gonna be put together. I just wanna be in my present and feel alive. And yet, I know that within me there is already an image I just have to bring it out by feeling it.
